Embracing the Summer: Making the Most of Your Retirement
|
Message from your local branch president:

Although we are still waiting for the summer heat, isn't it wonderful to see the green foliage, the luxurious lawns, and the flowers starting to show their glory? My favourite morning wake-up is to walk through the yard and check on the flowers and the garden, trailed, of course, by all my livestock. We welcome a new group of superannuates into the fold, all coming from Prairie South. Thanks to all of them for their many years of devotion to students.

They will now have time for morning walks, afternoon naps, and many hours of reading--with no report cards, no student supervision, and no class preparation!

During the last month I visited Gimli, Manitoba and found a very scenic community busy preparing for the influx of summer tourists. If you are in the Winnipeg area, it's worth an extra hour to head north to this Icelandic settlement. While in Nipawin a few days ago, I was fortunate to be invited to dinner at Mabel Hill. a wonderful farm-to-table restaurant with a most impressive menu. If you are in the vicinity, be sure to reserve in advance as it is a very popular establishment. In Watrous, just a short drive away from us, there is a very unique shopping complex at the lake that features a wide variety of artisans--all in their own small building. It's a little community along the main road and it's definitely worth a stop.

As we begin our summer travels, be sure to stop in our small communities. You never know what little treasure you might find.

Sip Smart: Hydration Tips for a Healthy Summer
|
Staying hydrated is essential during the summer months. Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Carry a reusable water bottle and take sips regularly. Infuse your water with fruits or herbs for a refreshing twist. Eat water-rich foods like cucumbers and watermelon, and avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol. Staying hydrated keeps you healthy and energized for all your summer activities!
|
For a refreshing and hydrating summer drink, try making citrus and mint-infused water. Simply wash and slice one lemon, one lime, and one orange, then add the fruit slices along with a handful of fresh mint leaves to a large pitcher. Pour in one liter of cold water and stir gently to combine. Refrigerate for at least two hours to let the flavours infuse. Serve chilled, or with ice cubes if desired. Enjoy this easy and delicious way to stay hydrated!
